Our Story

Kate and Blake met on a whim, but just couldn’t stop talking to each other.

In 2014, as young adults, Kate and Blake were trying to find themselves and figure out how they wanted to show up in the world. And as part of this journey, they found each other.

One of the many misadventures of Blake and Kate began on a typical Saturday afternoon. Kate drove over to visit Blake during winter break of their freshman year of college. Blake was working at Jimmy John’s as a delivery driver and was called to cover a shift unexpectedly. Kate assured Blake that it wasn’t a problem — she’d just go to the library and read a book until he was done. As everyone knows, reading is always the answer.

Kate was still browsing the shelves, when someone asks, “Is there anything I can help you find?”

She turned, ready to say she was fine, but it was BLAKE.

He had managed to leave his shift early, and had come over to pick her up and whisk her away for a day at the Baltimore Aquarium.

After a beautiful tour, and a classic stop at Chipotle at the Inner Harbor, they drove back to the library to pick up Kate’s car and say goodbye.

But before Kate could drive off, Blake knocked on her window and said, “I just have one more thing…. I love you.”

It was a day out of a storybook.

10 years later, Blake wrote another storybook day for Kate.

Returning to the Baltimore Aquarium, Kate and Blake set off on a memorable visit.

After touring the first two floors of the Aquarium (during which Blake passed on the touch tank, but didn’t seem to see the need to tell Kate not to get her sleeves wet), Blake pointed out the newly refurbished Harbor View Room. They stepped inside to admire the view, and Blake handed his phone to (someone Kate thought was) a stranger.

“Can you take a picture of us,” he asked.

“Of course,” said the stranger, who Kate now knows as Steve.

Blake and Kate posed for a photo. Then when Blake went to take his phone back, he turned back to Kate and said, “I just have one more thing…”

Blake got down on his knee and asked,

“Will you marry me?”

And the rest is history.
